To all parties that are required to complete the legal registration and hold general assembly by January 30, 2013/February 7/2021

When the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia conducted the registration process of political parties, it will be recalled that there were parties that were required to hold a general meeting and submit [the report] until February 7 2021 in accordance with Electoral, Registration of Political Parties and Electoral Code of Conduct No. 1162/2019 and Directive No. 3. The 6th national election due to be held in 2020 was postponed due to fears of the international COVID-19 pandemic.

To all political parties that have completed legal registration

It is known that the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE)has been making various activities after announcing the timetable for holding the 6th national election. One of the tasks mentioned in the timeline is the selection of political parties' election symbols. Accordingly, the submission of election symbols and the following decision-making procedures will be undertaken between January 21-February 1. Accordingly, the selection of the election symbol will be conducted as follows.

For all political parties granted legal registration

One of the preparations for the 6th national election by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is [completing the process of] recruiting, training and deploying election officials at all levels. Based on its commitment to ensure the credibility and impartiality of the process, which has been repeatedly called for by various parties in the past, the Board is ready to share with the political parties the first-round list of election officials at regional level.

National Electoral Board of Ethiopia holds awareness raising consultation forum for civil society organizations regarding political parties’ gender audit report

NEBE in collaboration with UN’s Department for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment organized an awareness raising consultation forum for civic society organizations regarding political parties’ gender audit report with the presence Board Deputy Chairman Wubesht Ayel and Board member Bezuwork Ketete on January 14, 2021. The forum was attended by representatives of civic society organizations and stakeholders.

Training is given to UN volunteers working on regional offices in collaboration with NEBE

The two-day training for UN volunteers was launched on January 12 with the presence of Board Chairwoman Birtukan Midekesa and Deputy Chairman Wubeshet Ayele. Volunteers have been recruited in collaboration with the UN volunteers in order to modernize and make the working procedure of NEBE’s regional branch offices efficient. The Board chairwoman opened the training session.

A call for participation - A draft guideline for preventing and controlling the distribution of Covid-19 during the electoral process

It is known that the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is approving various directives for the 6th national election. One of these directives is set to prevent and control the transmission of COVID-19 during the election process.
