Based on the notice from the National Election Board of Ethiopia to 26 political parties, the parties have either been conducting their general assemblies or making preparations towards convening one. Based on this, the status of the general assembly of the political parties is as follows.
The political parties that have conducted their general assembly are
NEBE held consultations with political parties on February 2, 2022. The consultation was led by the Birtukan Mideksa and Wubshet Ayele, the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Board respectively. The political parties complained that following the declaration of the state of emergency, members and leaders of the parties have been arbitrarily arrested and harassed.

It is recalled that during the consultation held between the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and competing parties on December 2, 2021 that, in accordance with Proclamation No. 1162/19 and Directive No. 3/2019, the parties should hold general assembly and conduct document amendment after 6th National Election, and those parties that failed to meet the requirements are informed to conduct their general assembly within one month from the date that the State of Emergency is lifted.
It is known that the National Election Board of Ethiopia has been conducting the registration and re-registration of political parties based on Proclamation no. 1162/2019, Article 65. As a result, the registration of some parties has been renewed while 27 parties that could not meet the requirements have been dissolved. Those parties dissatisfied with the decision of the party have taken their cases to the court.
