Melatwork Hailu


Melatwork Hailu has over 30 years of experience in various public and private sectors, serving in multiple leadership and managerial roles. Prior to her appointment as Chairperson of the Board for the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), she served as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization for two years, playing a vital role in the 2021 General Election.

Before entering public service, Melatwork led a law firm for over 12 years, providing legal consultancy, mediation, arbitration, and retention services to various international and local nonprofit organizations, as well as businesses across multiple sectors.

In her early career, she served at the Ethiopian Customs Authority in various capacities, including Head of the Enforcement Department, Head of Operations, and Head of the Civil Suit Division. This experience provided her with insight into diverse operational and logistical leadership methods.

Melatwork holds a Bachelor of Law degree and a Master's in Peace and Security Studies from the Institute of Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University. She also earned a second master's degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
