It is known that the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia is conducting voter registration for the 6th General Election. The slow voter registration at the beginning has improved significantly, and excluding the last three days so far, 28,731,935 voters have been registered while registration is still underway at 41,798 polling stations.
The last day of voter registration, after the addition of 15 days beyond the deadline is May 07, 2021, except in Afar and Somali regions. During this time
- During the time when voter registration was extended, the registration could not take place due to the existence of multiple national holidays which resulted in the closure of offices.
- When voter registration is extended, the process of organizing sub-stations to identify 1,500 registered voters took time. As a result, the Board realized that there was a huge voter turnout at the polling station.
- With this in mind, the Board recognizes that a lot of people did not take voter card, so voter registration has been extended for another 07 days until Friday, May 14, 2021, in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region, Gambella, Harari, Oromia and Sidama where voter registration was supposed to be finalized today.
- Accordingly, we are informing voters in these city administrations and regional governments to take their ballot cards at the nearest polling stations these days. We would also like to inform officials and coordinators of the Board to register voters from today until May 14, 2021, in accordance with the law, including Saturday and Sunday.
