NEBE Reflects on Best Practices from International Experience and 6th General Election
The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) reflected on its international experience and the best practices from the 6th General Election. During the reflection event, which took place in the presence of the five Board members, heads of departments and regional branch offices, and senior experts, the Board’s delegations who participated in election observations in various countries shared their experiences with the participants. This event occurred last week, from October 29 to 31, 2025. A short documentary about the 6th General Election was presented to highlight best practices, and participants also shared their experiences from the 6th General Election.
In addition to the agendas mentioned above, the event includes presentations that enhance communication skills, conflict resolution mechanisms, types of stress and stress management techniques, and protocols for the effective and appropriate use of authority and hierarchy. After the presentations, participants discussed in groups and reflected on all the mentioned topics.
The reflection on the execution of the recently concluded fiscal year was one of the unique approaches of the event. Each department presented what was successful and what challenges they faced during that fiscal year in a bazaar format, and participant reflections followed. The remaining fiscal year’s work and the upcoming General Election activities are suggested to be implemented in accordance with the strategic plan already prepared by the Board.
The Board Chairperson, Melatwork Hailu, in her closing remarks, appreciated the members of the event committees and all the presenters who shared their best experiences and expertise. Melat emphasized that participants are expected to cascade relevant inputs from the event to experts in their departments in a way that will be demonstrated in the upcoming 7th General Election. The European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) was also appreciated for supporting the event.
