NEBE Launches Mock Debate to Strengthen Political Parties’ Skills Ahead of 7th General Election

The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) launched a mock debate between political parties prior to the 7th general election. The mock debate was launched a day after the NEBE presented the draft election timetable for political parties. In her opening remarks, the NEBE Chairperson, Melatwork Hailu, stated that the mock debate will enhance the skills of political parties in debating various policies and programs. “This mock debate will position you to present your programs and policies effectively in the upcoming mainstream media debate that the board will prepare,” she said.

Prior to the mock debate, which started on October 21st and ends on October 24th, 2025, the Board provided training to the political parties to enhance their election debating skills. In this mock debate, the NEBE presented 16 different topics for the parties to debate. For each topic, two to four parties will take the stage to debate, and at the end, the other participating parties will conduct a secret vote to identify the winner.

In the previous year, the Board conducted a number of training sessions for the parties to enhance their capacity and contribute to the nation’s democratic development.
