The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, in accordance with the FDRE Constitution, Political Parties Registration and Electoral Ethics Proclamation No. 1162/2019 and the National Electoral Board Establishment Proclamation No. 1133/2019, approved the Licensing and Ethics of local election observers` directive No. 05/2020. The directive was approved after including input from civil society organizations and other stakeholders on the issue.
Accordingly, believing that the participation of local election observers in the next 6th general election will play a significant role in ensuring free, fair and impartial elections, civil society organizations wishing to observe the 6th general election should submit their requests to the Board. Therefore, those:
- non-profit, non-governmental and registered legal entities;
- with no political party affiliation;
- their Board members and leaders of are not members of any political party
- which are qualified to observe election and can deploy independent observers to observe the election; as well as
- which can meet other requirements of the Directive for Election Observation and want to observe Election, can submit their request to the board.
Indigenous civil society organizations should fill out the application form, observer information form and affidavit along with the required documents, and submit the forms and documents to the head office, regional branch offices of the Board or via our email address. The Board invites you to submit your application within 15 working days, starting from December 11, 2020.
