The importance of voter education is evident in the determination of citizens to participate in elections and to hold credible election. The participation of civil society is also important to achieve this goal at the national level.

Accordingly, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia shall issue licenses to civil society organizations that provide voter education in accordance with the powers vested to it by the Constitution and Proclamation No. 1133/2019. The board has approved the Voter Education Licensing and Ethics Directive No. 04/2020, after including input from discussions with civil society representatives on the issue. Therefore, it is necessary to issue a license to the competent associations to provide the education by calling on the civil society organizations who want to provide education.

Accordingly, those of you:

  • legally registered and have the capacity to carry out teaching activities;
  • neutral from any political affiliation;
  • Indigenous civil society organizations that meet the requirements set out in the directive and wish to provide voter education in various ways must submit your application to the head office or regional branch offices of the Board within 10 days from the date of this announcement.

Interested applicants can get detailed documents, application forms and related forms from the link below, head office, and regional branch offices. Those organizations previously submitted their applications should also fulfil all requirements and resubmit their applications as of the directive.
