Chairwoman of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, Birtukan Mideksa, signed a joint project document with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Minister of Finance. The 40-million-dollar project document will be used for a variety of election-related activities, including building the capacity of the Electoral Board to ensure the next national election is free, fair and credible. Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden have contributed to the budget.
During the signing ceremony, the chairman of the board, Birtukan Mideksa, said the project will greatly help to hold an international standard election. The Minister of Finance, His Excellency Ahmed Shede, on behalf of the Government of Ethiopia, attended the signing ceremony, as did the new members of the Election Board.
