It is known that the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has decided to hold the 6th General Election on Monday June 21, 2021. Hence, the Board informs all governmental and non-governmental organizations to implement the following according to Article 161 of The Ethiopian Electoral, Political Parties Registration and Election’s Code of Conduct Proclamation No. 1162/2011; in order that all registered citizens can vote without any security problem that disrupts the election process.
Accordingly,
- All federal and regional government offices should be closed on June 21, 2021, so that citizens use the day only for voting purpose (except in Hararia and Somali Regions).
- All non-governmental and private organizations should be closed on June 21, 2021, so that citizens use the day only for voting purpose (except in Hararia and Somali Regions)
- Emergency service providers, hospitals, and other day-to-day service givers that provide the same service on closed days (hotels, restaurants, transportation service providers…) are not obliged to close their facilities on Election Day.
- Although transportation service will continue in the usual way, citizens shall not make plans that require activities different from casting their ballots, and the Board encourages them to do so.
