Tesfaye Niwai has 17 years of dedicated public service experience, having served as a public prosecutor, presiding judge, legal researcher, and university lecturer. His immediate post before being appointed as Deputy Chairperson of National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is Vice President of Federal First Instance Court of Ethiopia and Spokesperson of Federal Courts of Ethiopia.
Tesfaye is a prolific author, with seven published books, five on law and two on leadership and management, as well as more than 20 articles written and published in both Amharic and English journals.
As Vice President of the Federal First Instance Court, he has played a key role in advancing judicial service delivery, promoting judicial independence and accountability, and strengthening inter-institutional coordination within the justice sector.
In recognition of his leadership and contributions, Tesfaye received a national award from the Begosew Foundation. Beyond his professional duties, he is passionate about community service, reading, spending time with elders, physical exercise, and exploring historical and natural places.
