Melatwork Hailu


Mrs. Melatwork Hailu has over 30 years of experience in different public and private sectors, serving in different leadership and managerial roles. Prior to her appointment as Chairperson of the Board for the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), she also served the organization as the Chief Executive Officer for two years and played a vital role in the 2021 national election

Before joining the public service, Mrs. Melatwork had led a law office for over 12 years, providing legal consultancy, mediation, arbitration and retention services to different international and local nonprofit organizations as well as businesses in a multitude of sectors.

In her early years, she served the Ethiopian Customs Authority at different capacities including Head of Enforcement Department, Head of Operations and Head of Civil Suit Division; which exposed her to different operational and logistical methods of leadership.

Mrs. Melatwork holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Addis Ababa University and a Masters in Peace and Security Studies from the Institute of Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University. She also holds a second master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
